Resources Come Together to Support Education for Record New School Year

In anticipation of Dothan City School’s annual institute event, nearly 30 companies worked to provide donations and support to help kickoff a record new year within Dothan’s educational history.

“The Foundation is so thankful for each and every donation that was put towards the 2019 DCS Institute event,” Lindsey Fountain, Dothan Education Foundation, Executive Director said. “It really goes to show that our community is invested in education. We believe it was important for the community to show support towards the massive amount of work that has been done this summer by all the Dothan City School staff to prepare for the first day of school. We want to thank supporters like Comcast, BBVA, Wiregrass Church and many other companies who have donated to provide breakfast snacks, lunch gift cards and appreciation bags.”

Each year, Dothan City School leadership puts together an internal kick off event for faculty and staff with motivational speakers and programming. In years past, the Dothan Education Foundation has announced DEF grant award winners, but due to the restructuring and  development of a new grant application portal, the Foundation board decided to delay the application opening window.

“We wanted to be able to give teachers time in their new classroom and school to figure out exactly what they needed,” Fountain said. “We hope that this new timeline and online application will make the experience more user friendly in order to get the resources needed.”

The new grant application portal will be live on August 20th for funding for up to $2,500 for classrooms and up to $5,000 for schools thanks to support from Michelin, Wells Fargo and monies raised from the annual Morris Slingluff Golf Tournament. The deadline to apply is September 17th. More information can be found online about grant guidelines and application.

“The support for DCS Institute and administration of our grant program are just a few examples of how we work to mobilize resources for education. We want DCS educators and staff to know that the community supports their hard work,” Fountain said. “We are looking forward to another great year.”
